Diana Andone

Dr. Diana Andone (@diando70) is the Director of the Digital &Distance Education Department at the Politehnica University of Timisoara (formerly the Center for Distance Education Studies (CSID), named the Center for ID/IFR and e-Learning between 2012-2023). She is responsible for planning and implementing digital education and integrating the use of online educational technologies for all forms of education through the UPT Virtual Campus – CV UPT. 

She teaches multimedia, interactive, and web technologies, maintaining an intense international research activity through various European-funded projects and multiple publications:

• over 17 books, 150 research papers, and 12 Best Paper Awards. She serves as a reviewer for 6 major journals, Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Education, co-chair for various IEEE conferences, and has coordinated over 30 international research and education projects.

Dr. Andone is strongly involved in the scientific community through various leadership roles in international associations:

Passionate about the use of technologies in everyday life, Diana promotes the use of open resources OER and MOOCs, developing UniCampus – online courses in Romania, training digital skills recently on the implications of generative artificial intelligence in education and science. She is very active in supporting the work of the regional start-up and innovation community, cultural and social responsibility, the involvement of women in technology.

Dr. Andone is a guest speaker at various conferences, has initiated various community transformation projects and over the last 25 years has been involved in the digital education development community in Romania, recently through the Împreună Online webinars, but also in the digital culture and heritage community through Patrimoniuul sub reflectoroare Timișoara, an award-winning cultural project from Timișoara 2023.

Passionate about the impact of technology on the quality of life, she organizes and develops international reference workshops such as the Open Education & Science Practices Workshop (annually, since 2014), the International Digital Skills Workshop (since 2016) and DigiEdu (2022). She has initiated and supported continuing education and microcredit programs, being the initiator of the webinar series "Together Online" and "Let's Build Together". She also coordinates the award-winning cultural project Patrimoniuul sub reflectoroare Timișoara, actively supporting regional innovation, the start-up movement and the involvement of women in technology.
