Human-computer dialogue and assistive technologies - research topics published at the SpeD2019 conference

The most interesting new research in speech recognition and human-computer dialogue technologies, but also the technologies behind digital assistants (among the best known - Siri, Alexa, Home) were presented on October 10-12 at the Conference Center of Politehnica University of Timisoara, during the international event 10th International Conference on Speech Technology and Human-Computer Dialogue - SpeD 2019

The Polytechnic University of Timișoara, through the Multimedia Research Center, hosted, between October 10-12, 2019, in Timișoara, the conference 10th International Conference on Speech Technology and Human-Computer Dialogue - SpeD 2019. The conference was organized by the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest, in collaboration with the Institute for Computer Science of the Romanian Academy, Iasi Branch, with the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute "Mihai Draganescu" of the Romanian Academy, Bucharest Branch in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Timisoara through the Center Multimedia.

In the opening of the event, Prof. Dr. Eng. Radu Vasiu - Multimedia Center from the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, associate professor Univ. dr. Liviu Cadariu-Brăiloiu, vice-rector of UPT, academician Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu - „Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iași and prof. dr. eng. Corneliu Burileanu, vice-president of the senate of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest.

Among the branded speakers - keynote speakers - they were counted Laurent Besacier - Laboratory CLIPS, CNRS - Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu - The Institute of Theoretical Informatics of the Romanian Academy, Iași branch, Geza Nemeth - Dept. Of Telecommunications and Media Informatics, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary, Radu Vasiu - Polytechnic University of Timișoara and Dan Tufiș - “Mihai Drăgănescu” Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (ICIA).

During the conference, Prof. Radu Vasiu, director of CM (UPT) together with Prof. Corneliu Burileanu (UPB) discussed live about the history of this conference, but also the concerns in the field, both at UPT and UPB, within Știința 360 show, broadcast by Radio România Cultural, live, from the Conference Center of the Polytechnic University of Timișoara.

SpeD2019 Conference is part of the series of events in the calendar Politehnica 100 - the first century of university education in Timisoara and brought together over 40 works, published by over 100 authors from more than 10 countries, on current topics in the recognition of speech and human dialogue. computer, digital assistive technologies that are controlled by voice commands, machine translation technologies and assistive technologies for people with disabilities.

The collaboration between the Polytechnic University of Timișoara and the Polytechnic University of Bucharest was an opportunity for discussions between the heads of the departments of the counterpart faculties of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies - ETCTI (UPT) and ETTI (UPB), related to a possible collaboration in research and development in the future.
