
European Researchers' Night 2026 at UPT: Showcasing Digital Innovation and E³UDRES² Research Outcomes to Thousands of Visitors
On September 25, 2026, the Digital and Distance Education Department (DeL) and the Multimedia Center at Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara (UPT), alongside the Spotlight Heritage Timișoara cultural project, successfully marked a new edition of the European Researchers' Night.The public enjoyed an engaging evening of virtual worlds, interactive experiments, premieres and glimpses into the future of education, showcasing research outcomes and innovative projects through the E³UDRES² European University Alliance.
The activities took place in parallel at the UPT Technical Museum (ExperimentariumTM) and the Nokia Campus, drawing over 150 visitors at the museum and more than 1,600 at the Nokia Campus, highlighting how international academic collaboration translates into practical, community-oriented innovation.
Highlights & Activities:
- Showcased in premiere at both locations—the UPT Technical Museum (ExperimentariumTM) and the Nokia Campus—- the DEMO version of DeL UPTs’ brand-new Virtual Reality edutainment & science application offered attendees an interactive and engaging way to discover what it means to be a student across the four Distance Learning (ID) and Part-Time Learning (IFR) specializations, aligning with the innovative educational methods promoted within the E³UDRES² Alliance.
- Over 150 visitors explored historical and digital milestones, including an introduction to MECIPT-1 - Romania's first university computer, latest Virtual and Mixed Reality (VR/AR) applications from Spotlight Heritage Timișoara, and new interactive VR edutainment apps for children at the UPT Technical Museum at the Experimentarium TM
- More than 1,600 participants—ranging from children to senior citizen —visited the DeL UPT space. Highlights included the Nokia VR Bell Labs Museum (developed by multimedia student Cătălin Săvoiu), mobile and mixed reality interactive games, and cultural heritage explorations in AR and VR.
Both locations served as dynamic platforms for presenting research results and innovation projects developed within the E³UDRES² Alliance. Visitors discovered how challenge-based learning models, cross-border cooperation and international student networks actively contribute to the formation of skills needed for the future.
