DeL at Open Campus Night: Hundreds of participants explored digital innovation in 3 UPT locations
The fourth edition of Open Campus Night took place on October 3, 2026, and the DeL team attracted hundreds of participants, young and old, in the 3 locations dedicated to technology and digital innovation: UPT 360° Immersive Space from the UPT Library, UPT Technical Museum – Experimentarium TM and Room C401 from the DeL headquarters. Here, visitors discovered interactive scenarios in Unity and 360° video tours, VR and AR applications alongside technological and artistic innovations, as well as sessions dedicated to the virtual campus, artificial intelligence and international opportunities E³UDRES².
Hundreds of visitors, young and old, at the UPT 360° Immersive Space in the UPT Library
On the 4th floor of the UPT Library, within the first 360° immersive projection space in the Romanian university system, over 300 participants (children, young people and visitors of all ages) explored interactive virtual environments and 360° video tours created by the DeL team:
- Interactive scenarios in Unity: Visitors navigated through high-fidelity virtual replicas of the Roman Catholic Church "Sacred Heart of Jesus" and the Timișoara Opera House, made through 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry by UPT students and faculty.
- 360° video tours: Panoramic drone flights, complemented by interactive info-points, offered a unique aerial perspective on the city's iconic locations.
Also, on the 4th floor of the UPT Library, the public was able to test AR/VR experiences through the Spotlight Heritage Timișoara project and the new interactive virtual reality application (presented for the first time), developed within the Accelerate Future HEI project, through which visitors could explore – using innovative methods promoted by the European Alliance E³UDRES² – the student experience. within the four distance and part-time specializations at UPT.
UPT Technical Museum – ExperimentariumTM
Dozens of participants crossed the threshold of the UPT Technical Museum, where they discovered a series of innovative attractions:
- DEMO version of the new Interactive VR applications DeL UPT: Presented for the first time, the new interactive demo version allowed visitors to explore the student experience within the four ID/IFR specializations, developed within the Accelerate Future HEI project
- AR/VR and edutainment applications "Spotlight Heritage Timișoara": Interactive edutainment, mobile and mixed reality applications brought to life the stories of the people and the 5 historical neighborhoods of Timișoara, transforming visitors into virtual tourists of the city. With the help of AR games, the public was able to interact directly with objects from the local cultural heritage, discovering the history and multiculturalism of the city.

- Artistic and scientific installations: The audience interacted with Physic AI Garden (virtual plants generated with the help of artificial intelligence, part of the CAPABLE Project and BioArt Revolution, presented in partnership with the Romanian Science Festival), the work Tipare ale Poeziei (artist Marius Jurca, 13m10j), as well as with guided tours through the exhibition of the history of Romanian computer science, which included the first computer in the Romanian university environment – MECIPT-1.
Digital innovation, CV UPT and E³UDRES² opportunities in Room C401, DeL
At DeL headquarters, in room 401, approximately 35 students participated in the session dedicated to digital transformation in higher education. Andrei Ternauciuc, PhD, Ph.D., the founder of the UPT Virtual Campus, presented the evolution of digitalization and digital transformation in UPT through DeL, also detailing the evolution of the UPT CV and providing practical training on using the digital platform.
During the same meeting, topics related to the ethical and efficient use of Artificial Intelligence in UPT were addressed, as well as the international opportunities for collaboration and development offered through the University Alliance.
