The ID / IFR and e-Learning Center (CEL) together with the Multimedia Center hosted on September 12, 2019 a presentation on how to integrate VR (virtual reality) in education by Professor Ekaterina Prasolova-Førland.
Ekaterina Prasolova-Førland is a professor in the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Ekaterina has been working with virtual educational worlds and immersive technologies since 2002, with over 100 publications in the field.
She has been involved in the development of educational virtual reality simulations for a wide range of recipients, from the aquatic agricultural industry to the Norwegian Armed Forces. Ekaterina founded and leads the Research Center on Innovative Innovative Technologies for Education (IMTEL) and the VR / AR (virtual and augmented reality) laboratory - IMTELlab.
She is the founder of Women's organizations in VR / AR Norway, a member of the XR Norway board and is frequently invited as a speaker or interviewed on immersive technology topics for education and training.
The IMTEL laboratory, coordinated by Prof. Prasolova-Førland, managed projects dedicated to introducing certain trades in career centers dedicated to the fishing, oil and unconventional energy industries, learning various medical skills and games dedicated to awareness of the dangers and effects of climate change.
Prof. Ekaterina Prasolova-Førland is also involved in a number of projects related to the application of immersive technologies in STEM education, climate change awareness, vocational training, medicine and therapy, career guidance, collaborative work, emergency management and other areas.
The event was a success, the room being almost too small, with the presence of over 30 participants - teachers from pre-university and university, representatives of the business environment and various other institutions and NGOs and students.
Professor Ekaterina Prasolova-Førland presented the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the center she coordinates but also the virtual and augmented reality laboratory. Video presentations of various applications from a multitude of fields captured the public's attention for almost 2 hours. The question and answer session clarified the ways of integrating AR / VR technologies in education, the technology behind them, the ways of collaboration and financial and administrative details.
The participants had the opportunity to experience a series of AR / VR applications developed within the ID / IFR and e-Learning Center using the center's equipment.
Ms Ekaterina Prasolova-Førland participated in this event on the basis of an EU-funded Erasmus + mobility project.
