ID/IFR Graduation Ceremony – Class of 2026
Saturday, July 4, 2026 – The Auditorium Hall of the Conference Center of Politehnica University Timișoara hosted, in an atmosphere full of emotion and pride, the ID/IFR Graduation Ceremony of the 2026 class. The event took place in a hybrid format, both in the Auditorium Hall and online, via Zoom, and was also broadcast live on Facebook, for those who could not physically be with the graduates.
Of the 197 students in their final year of the four ID/IFR specializations, 137 graduated, and 96 were present at the ceremony to celebrate, with family, friends, and teachers, the end of this stage.
The ceremony began with the traditional "Gaudeamus", followed by the Anthem of the Politehnica University of Timișoara. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Diana Andone, the director of the Department of ID/IFR and Digital Education, who congratulated the graduates on their journey.
Members and supporters who did not make it to the hall had the opportunity to watch the Ceremony online, as it was broadcast Live on DeL official Facebook page.
ID Telecommunications Technologies and Systems – Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies
Prof.dr.ing. Cătălin Căleanu, the dean of the faculty, emphasized the extremely dynamic nature of the ETCTI field and the need for continuing education, inviting graduates to stay connected to the faculty community, including through the Association of Electronics Engineers.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Muguraș Mocofan, TST ID academic officer, talked about a quote by Cioran brought up just the day before by a student, about the importance of reading at the right time, and encouraged the graduates to continue with a master's degree, possibly a doctorate - recalling examples of ID graduates who have reached doctoral studies. He added that, no matter how useful AI or Google may be, colleagues with different expertise remain an essential resource, urging the preservation of community and collaboration.
On behalf of the graduates, they spoke Lungu Cezar-Sebastian, the class president, who emphasized that completing TST at ID is "a completely different story" than during the day, most of whom are parents, spouses or employees who have transformed their evenings into study hours, and Constantinescu Madalina-Iulia, head of year, who spoke about the discipline and sense of community built remotely, emphasizing that ID does not mean lack of involvement, but just a different way of learning.
Informatics ID - Faculty of Automation and Computers
Prof. Dr. Eng. Marius Marcu, the dean of the Faculty of Automation and Computers, addressed a message to the graduates about the profound changes that have occurred on the job market in the three years since the graduates applied to the faculty, with the advent of artificial intelligence. He compared this moment to the transition from low-level to high-level programming: the skills required today are different, and critical thinking and the ability to evaluate are becoming essential. He wished the graduates success in their professional and personal lives.
From the graduates, Muntean Sergiu-Ștefan, head of year and head of promotion, gave a speech in which he quoted a thought by Sophocles and thanked the teachers who "left their mark" on the promotion, for their professionalism and the warm welcome he received from the first day at the faculty. He recalled that every end is, in fact, a new beginning, and thanked the DeL family and representatives for the real interest given to the digitalization of education.
Communication and Public Relations ID – Faculty of Communication Sciences
Prof. Dr. Simona Șimon, vice dean, spoke about the challenge of conveying abstract concepts at a distance and noted that, in the subjects he teaches, ID students often achieved better results than full-time students.
Prof. Dr. Mugurel Dragomir, CRP ID academic officer, recalled a thought by a Greek historian about fear, interest, and recognition, telling the graduates that they came to college out of interest, they learned with perseverance, and now the recognition they deserve has arrived. He emphasized the power of words to destroy, but also to build.
On behalf of the graduates, they spoke Fleşeriu Floriana-Raluca-Teodora, senior, who confessed that she entered the faculty as a silent person, observing from the shadows, and that the specialization taught her to develop and build her image, urging her colleagues not to forget that, before being communication people, they are people, and Chiba Loredana-Andreea, head of year, who humorously talked about the juxtaposition between family life and study – from essays submitted at 11:59 PM to the times when an internet outage became an "image crisis" – ending with a quote from Pythagoras about the power of saying a lot in a few words.
Machine Construction Technology IFR – Faculty of Mechanics
Prof. Dr. Eng. Ion-Dragoș Uțu, the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, congratulated the new engineers, emphasizing the essential role of the TCM engineer in transforming ideas into real industrial processes and recalling that the learning process continues beyond the diploma.
Adrian Dume, Ph.D. Eng., academic officer of TCM IFR, marked an anniversary moment – 25 years since his own graduation – and thanked his colleagues, teachers and families of the graduates. He congratulated the class on the quality of their bachelor's theses and made a request to them: to use artificial intelligence with discernment, preserving their ability to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong.
On behalf of the graduates, they spoke Mihaescu Ada, head of the class, who thanked for the privilege of the four years spent at UPT and for the patience of the teachers, and Trinca Andreea-Maria, head of year, who humorously noted that most of the colleagues were over 30 and had families, thanking the teachers for their tolerance and flexibility.
Alumni Moment
A special moment was brought by Madalina Tolontan, a TST ID graduate from the class of 2021, who shared how the discipline acquired at ID helped her move from a job in production to a master's degree, then to a doctorate at ETC, and is currently exploring the area of research and development and entrepreneurship. She told the graduates not to stop there, because the master's and doctorate are the "fun" part of the academic journey.
The ceremony ended with a message from Dr. Diana Andone, who emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and invited the graduates to stay connected with UPT and tell the department about their professional journey. He thanked the professors and coordinators of the four specializations for their involvement over the years.
The graduates then received their diplomas awarded by the Department of ID/IFR and Digital Education, handed over by the academic heads of each specialization, followed by the official group photo in the Auditorium.
The culminating moment of the celebration, eagerly awaited by all, was the traditional tossing of the school caps. In a symbolic gesture, the graduates threw their caps into the sky, thus marking the end of an important stage and the beginning of a new path.
The graduates, along with family and friends, the teachers and the DeL team, clinked a glass of champagne and reminisced about their years of study during a cocktail party held in the lobby in front of the Auditorium.
