
Dr. Diana Andone, re-elected to the leadership of the IEEE Education Society: A new term as Vice-President for the period 2026-2027
Politehnica University Timișoara continues to strengthen innovation in engineering – the director of DeL, Dr. Diana Andone being re-elected for the position of Vice President of the IEEE Education Society, following the global online voting in November.
Director of the Department of ID/IFR and Digital Education and teacher at UPT, dr. Diana Andone is internationally recognized for its contributions in areas such as open education (OER), virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence applied to education, and the development of e-learning ecosystems.
The path of Dr. Diana Andone within the IEEE Education Society he debuted by activating as member of the IEEE Board of Governors (Board of Governors) in the period 2022-2023, and subsequently, in the period 2024-2025, to become the first member from Romania elected to the position of Vice President in charge of Conferences, Workshops and Events. Recently, the success of his work has been reconfirmed by re-election for the 2026-2027 term in the same position as Vice President, from which position she will continue to coordinate the global strategies regarding the society's events and publications. In addition to her executive responsibilities, Dr. Diana Andone holds the title of "Distinguished Lecturer"” for the period 2024-2025 and is an active member of the IEEE Romania Executive Committee, having previously been recognized with the prestigious „Distinguished Chapter Leadership”(2021).
According to the web page IEEE Education Society, in the new mandate, Dr. Diana Andone aims to strengthen the organization through more visible events and better management of educational resources. She stated that she wants to „to continue integrating the activities initiated in the last 2 years and to increase the level of recognition of reference conferences”", placing particular emphasis on "„the attractiveness of the society for members, especially women, young professionals and students”.
His vision includes use of digital tools for streamlining events and organizing regional activities focused on "„andartificial intelligence in education, educational technologies and the benefit of using open educational resources (OER) in engineering”.
