Thousands of students participated ONLINE in the Opening Ceremony of the UPT academic year
Atypical opening year, but full of success at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara. The academic year 2020-2021 started online for UPT students, on Monday, September 21, 2020 bringing together the entire management team of the university and was watched by thousands of students, both on the ZOOM platform and on the channels of Facebook and YouTube.
UPT 100
The event was all the more special in the context of the anniversary of 100 years of university education in Timișoara, Politehnica 100, the first 100 years of existence of the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, also celebrating the coherent and innovative development of online education in the university. Over 3000 students they watched the event live and sent hundreds of messages and questions.
The host of the event was Dr. Diana Andone - the director of the IDT / IFR and e-Learning Center of UPT - who thanked the students for their participation, welcoming them to the university.
The opening ceremony began with the traditional UPT anthem, and the opening speech was addressed by the rector of UPT - Assoc. dr. eng. Florin Drăgan, who welcomed the students to the university and reminded them that they are a special generation for the university:
"We are embarking on a new path together, which means a new century of the Polytechnic University. I know you are a different generation, but you need to know that today you are climbing the steps - even if they are virtual - of a special university. A university that means, given the almost 15,000 students and teaching or administrative staff - an entire city, with its bustle, a real fortress within the fortress, a university that is confused with the modern history of Timisoara, a reference institution for the entire region, one of the strongest university brands in Romania”- he sent to the UPT students.
In this context, the rector of UPT also presented to the students a video material with the most important moments from the first century of the university's existence.
The students' welcome speech was then spoken by the student representative on the board - Alexandru Iliescu, UPT students having the opportunity to meet the representatives of the Student Leagues, who each sent a welcome message during the Opening Ceremony of the academic year.
Among those who took the floor was also Dr. Christian von Abrichsfeld, general manager of Continental Automotive Romania, member of the UPT Board of Directors.
Polytechnic University He then prepared a video for students on how UPT prepared to receive students this year on campus, with classrooms, labs and sports fields, and dozens of facilities offered by the university. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alina Dumitrel, vice-rector on the educational process, student issues and quality assurance, then spoke and provided students with technical information about the structure of the academic year 2020-2021, about the Virtual Campus of UPT and the departments to which students can address.
Towards the end of the broadcast, students were able to watch a video about digital education in the Polytechnic University, insured for over 20 years through the e-Learning Center, focusing on the core of UPT education - Virtual Campus, around which a true digital ecosystem has been built supported by a series of resources and support activities dedicated to both students and teachers.
The opening ceremony of the 2020-2021 academic year UPT then came to an end, with the traditional chanting of "Gaudeamus”.
Opening of an ID / IFR university
The opening ceremony of the academic year 2020/2021 for students from ID / IFR specializations is scheduled Saturday, October 3, 2020 and is to be broadcast LIVE on the Facebook and YouTube channels of the ID / IFR and e-Learning Center UPT.
