Over 800 Participants at the 10th edition of the UPT's International Digital Skills 2025 Workshop, dedicated to digital resilience

Politehnica University of Timișoara (UPT), through the Department of ID/IFR and Digital Education (DeL) and the Multimedia Center, in collaboration with the Alliance of European Universities E³UDRES² partners, benefiting from the support IEEE Education Romania and projects Accelerate Future HEI and Erasmus+ LECTURES hosted the 10th edition of International Digital Skills Workshop 2025: Developing Digital Skills for Resilience, which brought together 65 physical participants, along with fish 750 online participants and 18 speakers of international stature.

The event took place on December 12 and was held in a hybrid format, both in the K1 Amphitheater of the UPT Conference Center and online, via Zoom, and was also broadcast live on the Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/CIDUPT  . The central theme of this edition focused on "Developing digital skills for resilience, emphasizing the need to equip educators, students, and citizens with the skills needed to navigate and thrive in an ever-changing digital environment.

Organized in collaboration with the Alliance of European Universities E³UDRES² partners, benefiting from the support IEEE Education Romania and projects Accelerate Future HEI and Erasmus+ LECTURES, The workshop addressed a diverse audience, including actors from the fields of education and research, as well as interested citizens from the community.

The event brought together 18 international speakers from Romania, Ukraine, Germany, Spain and Italy. The discussions focused on the Digital Competence Framework 3.0 (DigComp 3.0) of the European Union and the importance of digital resilience in education, research and community.

An important component of this edition was participation of university professors from Ukraine, during a Study Visit to Timișoara, hosted by DeL – UPT. 

The presentations were given in English and Ukrainian – the latter being interpreted live in Romanian for the audience. The sessions were intensely interactive, with participants asking dozens of questions both physically, in the room, and online, with real-time interaction being efficiently facilitated through the app. Keep it., which allowed for the rapid and anonymous collection of feedback and questions, thus integrating the online and physical audience into a unified dialogue.

From blockchain and robotics to Artificial Intelligence

The welcome speech was delivered at the opening of the workshop by Prof. Em.dr.ing. Radu Vasiu together with Dr. Eng. Diana Andone, the director of DeL, the presentation session starting with a presentation by the Tor Vergata University of Rome team, consisting of Antonella Poce, Luca Contardi, Carlo de Medio and Gabriel Monetti, who spoke about integrating artificial intelligence and robotics for educational experiences in the field of heritage, presenting insights from the ARTISTIC project.

Ana Stamatescu from the European Digital Education HUB (EDEH) provided examples of the use and application of Artificial Intelligence-based tools in learning environments from preschool programs to adolescents.

Prof.dr. Carmen Holotescu The Rector of the "Ioan Slavici" University of Timisoara explored the role of decentralized technologies in education, in a presentation that focused on how blockchain technology can ensure the authenticity, security and portability of diplomas and certificates, strengthening trust in credentials obtained in the digital environment.

Contributing online, via Zoom, Ilona Buchem from Berlin University of Applied Sciences, Germany, provided an insight into the role of robots in education. The online session explored the practical and ethical applications of robots as teaching tools, highlighting their potential to personalize and enhance educational experiences.

Three teams of teachers from Ukraine presented to the audience their digitalization experience in recent years, including university professors and the dean Nataliia Panomarova, Nadia Olefirenko and Ganna Krapivnik – HSSkovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, Ukraine shared their vital experience in the context of digital transformation and resilience, highlighting the strategies adopted to support teacher training in the digital environment, ensuring the continuity and quality of the educational process in the face of current challenges. University professors and the dean Svitlana Kizim, Oksana Voloshina and Svitlana Liulchak (VSPU) demonstrated how they can be created interactive teaching materials with the help of Artificial Intelligence (NotebookLM and Gems in Google Classroom). Another representative from Ukraine, Iryna Shkola (Berdyansk State Pedagogical University), explored the role AI in language learning.

Dr. Diana Andone (UPT) provided details about accelerating institutional transformation through European projects, presenting the impact of the project Accelerate Future HEI, from objectives to achievements, highlighting how it supports UPT in its transformation towards a more entrepreneurial and innovative institution.

Professor Dr.em Radu Vasiu together with Dr.Diana Andone detailed the efforts of the E³UDRES² alliance to create a European multi-campus, focusing on innovative teaching methods, online courses and collaborative research opportunities.

Judith Cosgrove from the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), Spain, detailed the elements regarding the EU reference framework, in a presentation that detailed the structure and relevance of the DigComp 3.0 framework as a European-level reference standard for defining and developing digital skills.

Last but not least, Assoc. Prof. Gabriela Grosseck from the West University of Timisoara analyzed how Artificial Intelligence tools influence evaluation processes and proposed innovative solutions and methodologies to ensure the integrity and relevance of evaluation in the digital academic environment.
