Wim Van Petegem
Ro: Wim Van Petegem holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Ghent (Belgium), a master's degree in biomedical engineering from KU Leuven (Belgium) and a doctoral degree in electrical engineering from KU Leuven (1993). He worked at the University of Alberta, Edmonton (Canada), at the Open University of the Netherlands and at the University College of Leuven (Belgium). From 2001 to 2012 he was head of the Media and Learning Center and later became director of the Teaching and Learning Department at KU Leuven (Belgium). He is currently a professor at the KU Leuven School of Engineering Technology. His research interests are in learning technologies, instructional design, engineering education, hyflex learning and the digital scholarship. He and his team are involved as entrepreneurs, partners, coordinators, experts or evaluators in many research, implementation and development projects. He teaches courses on competenceis a professional and intercultural engineer and implements innovative approaches in teaching and learning in other courses. He is a member of the Commission for the Evaluation of the Quality of Education in Flanders and the Netherlands. He is actively involved in various international university networks (such as SEFI, EDEN and MEDEA) and is strongly involved in development cooperation projects with the South. It also offers regular training courses (in Leuven and abroad, for example, in South Africa, Ecuador, Ethiopia, China, the Philippines, etc.) on innovation in education and digital skills for teachers and students.professional support staff. He is teaching courses on professional and intercultural engineering skills and implements innovative approaches to teaching and learning in other courses. He is a regular panel member of review committees to assess the quality of education in Flanders and the Netherlands. He is actively involved in different international networks of universities (like SEFI, EDEN, and MEDEA) and is heavily engaged in development cooperation projects with the South. He also gives regular trainings (in Leuven and abroad, eg in South Africa, Ecuador, Ethiopia, China, Philippines, etc.) on innovation in education and digital competencies for teachers and professional support staff.
