Alexandra I. Cristea

Alexandra I. Cristea is a professor, leader of the research group in innovative computing at the Department of Computer Science at Durham University. Her research interests include web science, learning analytics, user modeling and personalization, the semantic web, the social web, authoring, with over 250 papers on these topics (over 3,700 citations on Google Scholar, h-index 31). Her work on architectures for adaptive systems has influenced, in particular, many researchers and is highly cited (the top paper having over 180 citations and growing). She is one of the world's top 50 researchers in computer-based educational research, according to Microsoft Research. Prof. Cristea was extremely active and had an influential role in international research projects. She has experience in research projects and has led various projects - workshop funded by Newton on Higher Education for All ('14 -'18), Education for Disadvantaged Students - funded by Santander ('14 -18 '), APLIC project funded by Warwick ('11 -12 '), EU Minerva ALS (06-09) and EU Minerva ADAPT projects ('02 -'05); as well as participation as a University Principal Investigator (IP) in several EU FP7 projects - BLOGFOREVER ('11 -'13), GRAPPLE ('08 -'11), PROLEARN ('07) and as co-IP in Warwick funding - Involvement of young people in assistive technologies ('13 -'15), also presented by the BBC. Recently, it took to a new level the help it already offered to the community, through the TechUP project (2019-2020) which trains 100 women in informatics from different minority backgrounds.

She is experienced in running research projects and has led various projects - Newton funded workshop on Higher Education for All ('14 -'18), Santander funded Education for disadvantaged pupils ('14 -18 ′), Warwick-funded project APLIC (' 11-; 12), EU Minerva projects ALS (06-09) and EU Minerva ADAPT ('02 -'05); as well as participated as university PI in several EU FP7 projects - BLOGFOREVER ('11 -'13), GRAPPLE ('08 - '11), PROLEARN ('07) and as co-PI in the Warwick-funded Engaging Young People with Assistance Technologies ('13 -'15) also featured by the BBC. Recently she has taken giving back to the community to a different level, with the project TechUP (2019-2020) training 100 women in computer science from various (BAME) backgrounds.
