Faculty of Arts and Design - 4 Oituz Street, Timișoara 300086 View mapThe chair of the CeL director, Dr. Diana Andone is exhibited, between September 20 and October 27 in the unique exhibition of the artist Haegue Yang, within the Art Encounters BIENNIAL 2019 - Timișoara. . Designed in 2001 specifically for the design of the VIP foyer at the Art Forum in Berlin, the work has had numerous variations in Bristol, Antwerp, Bonn, Seoul, Graz, Cologne and New Plymouth.
The VIP Union is a collaborative work located at the intersection between the artist, the host institutions and the inhabitants of the city where the works are presented. Designed in 2001 specifically for the design of the VIP foyer at the Art Forum in Berlin, the work has had numerous variations in Bristol, Antwerp, Bonn, Seoul, Graz, Cologne and New Plymouth.
Although he redefined the notion of VIP in each context and always had a different configuration adapted to the spaces, the procedure remained the same. The host institution nominates a list of personalities who are invited to borrow a piece of furniture during the exhibition, either a chair or a table. The work takes the form of a collection of ready-made objects that embody the cultural, historical and personal stories of the place and their owners.
All my life I have been passionate about the use of technologies in everyday life, the promotion of the correct, intelligent and socially responsible use of new technologies. Therefore, when the eLearning Center of the Polytechnic University of Timișoara moved to its new spaces, we opted for a chair in which innovative technologies act efficiently, reducing stress. With the same chair are equipped all the researchers and staff of CeL and with a similar one, the laboratories dedicated to students.

In Timisoara, people considered important locally in various fields such as culture, politics, education, private sector, social assistance, economy, sports, media, science and entertainment were invited to take part in the project. The term "important" is context-dependent - the selection of those who borrow furniture items aimed to render a heterogeneous image of Timisoara and the social structure of the city. The variety of pieces of furniture, with their different styles and origins, aims to convey a portrait of the community based on similarities and differences.
Haegue Yang
Haegue Yang (b. 1971, Seoul) lives in Berlin and Seoul. His works are known for their eloquent and seductive sculptural language of visual abstraction, often derived from the artist's research on historical figures, events and traditional techniques. Yang's varied work includes conceptual works that present aspects of institutional critique. Observing hidden social structures to reimagine a possible community, themes such as migration, post-colonial diasporas and social mobility are reinterpreted and recurring in his works.
Biennial Art Encounters is an international event held at
Timisoara since 2015 and organized by the Art Encounters Foundation in collaboration
with Timișoara City Hall, Timiș County House for Culture, Council
Timiș County and Triade Foundation.
The extended format of this year's Biennial program, as well as part of
public programs, were developed in partnership with the Association "Timisoara"
European Capital of Culture ”and are co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and Identity
National and Timisoara City Hall.
