Abstract: Technology education for the AI generation: From AI literacy to AI agency
The adoption of artificial intelligence in all fields challenges societies by weakening the sense of security, eroding trust and increasing inequalities. The project Generation AI identify solutions that will especially facilitate children's resilience in the face of the ongoing technological transition, encourage cybersecurity mindsets, and equip schools and teachers with the knowledge and pedagogies needed to transform the curriculum.
In this discussion, Teemu Roos present a few developed educational technologies within the project and will discuss learnings regarding their use in the classroom.
About Teemu Roos
University of Helsinki, Finland
Teemu Roos is a professor of computer science at the University of Helsinki and program leader AI Education at the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI). Roos is also the lead instructor for the online course Elements of AI, which has fish 1.2 million users and was classified as straight the best computer science MOOC in the world. Previously, he held visiting positions at UC Berkeley, MIT and Cambridge University.
His research interests include statistical machine learning and its applications in astrophysics, neuroscience, and epidemiology.
- He has published over 65 scientific articles peer reviewed and holds two international patents.
- Roos has given guest lectures, for example, at Google, Apple, Microsoft Research, Stanford University, Yale, Purdue, Sorbonne, European Parliament, Club de Madrid, OECD and UNESCO.
- In the early 2000s, his work on positioning wireless devices (over 1,000 scientific citations) was marketed as the spinoff company Ekahau Inc. This led to a successful exit of over 100 million dollars in 2018 (acquired by Ookla/Ziff Davis)
