The current low participation of women in STEM fields is a problem for most European countries.<\/p>\n<p>In the Erasmus+ KA2 project GirlsTech this theme is addressed. Eight countries share their knowledge to improve their own policies. The project is not about developing a new universal tool, but to focus on peer learning activities, to find out which approaches might be suitable for the participating countries.<\/p>\n<p>The project duration from\u00a01 September 2016 until 31 August 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Director:\u00a0Dr. Diana Andone<\/p>\n<p>Members<br \/>\nProf.dr.eng. The majority of the partners were selected from the INNOTECS network.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands: MBO Raad + VHTO<br \/>\nUnited Kingdom:\u00a0Association of Colleges (AoC)<br \/>\nSpain:\u00a0CIFP Construcci\u00f3n LHII (Eraiken)<br \/>\nPortugal:\u00a0Forave<br \/>\nEstonia:\u00a0P\u00e4rnumaa Kutsehariduskeskus<br \/>\nRomania: Politehnica University of Timisoara (UPT)<br \/>\nFinland:\u00a0Sataedu<br \/>\nSlovenia: \u0160olski center Nova Gorica<\/p>\n<p>Reasons for GirlsTech project<br \/>\nThe idea for the GirlsTech project was suggested during the first INNOTECS conference in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Participants at the conference wondered why there was such a considerable difference in the number of girls participating in STEM-studies.<\/p>\n<p>Summary of the reasons:<br \/>\nShortages in STEM areas<br \/>\nMost obvious and largest reservoir of talent is girls\/women as they are 50% of the population<br \/>\nIn NL a special \u2018think-tank gender\u2019 that was established to advise the Minister on issues in STEM in VET, advised that the situation should be investigated in other countries<br \/>\nWhy are some countries better performing than others?<br \/>\nHow do we explain high participation in the VET STEM-labour market, but low participation in VET STEM programs in some countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Technology continues to dominate much of our daily lives.
