Impact of Open Education on Virtual Mobility in Higher Education
Prof. Ilona Buchem is Professor of Media and Communication at Beuth University in Berlin, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Business Education from Humboldt University in Berlin, a Certificate in Business Administration from the University of St. Petersburg. Gallen from Switzerland and Master in Applied Linguistics and Communication from the University of Warsaw (Poland). Ilona Buchem has led a number of research and development projects, including the recent Open Virtual Mobility project (Erasmus +, Strategic Partnership 2017-2020), the Open Badge Network (Erasmus +, Strategic Partnership 2014-2017), BeuthBonus and CreditPoints Migrant Academics as part of the German Federal Program “IQ - Integration through Qualification”, 2013-2020), Digital Future (Digital Strategies for Higher Education, Stifterverband - German Association of Foundations for Science, 2015-2017), Wikipedia-Diversity -, in collaboration with Wikimedia Germany, which promotes the integration of the gender perspective in the German Wikipedia. Open badges are digital accreditations based on an open standard that allows the recognition and sharing of different types of skills and achievements on the web. Informal education providers use open badges globally to capture lifelong learning, which may be unrecognized by traditional forms of accreditation. This discussion will introduce open badges as an open and digital infrastructure; an open digital accreditation ecosystem for the digital age.
